Village Vanguard 1961

recently I bought a CD of John Coltrane with Eric Dolphy playing at the Village Gate 1961, also available on LP. It is nearly the same group playing later during the 4 nights at the Village Vanguard. The sound quality is different. While at the Gate they had only one mic it was Rudy van Gelder at the Vanguard having positioned his mixing equipment in front of the stage, just on one of the seating tables. The CD record at the Gate was discovered just last year. It has not the best sound quality but provides most of the dynamics of the phantastic music.

I was so impressed that I was looking for the Vanguard record in my collection. I found a 3 set of the 2 nights, pressed by the High Quality Italian label DOXY.

the sound quality is superb, you may enjoy that kind of music which many critics at that time were not really friendly to. It was a different and difficult time in 1961.

I am using two old Ksl -transformers from Kondo going via MM into the Allnic 5000 phono stage. Excellent combination with the carts, Kondo Io-M and Lyra Titan.
