Volume Control

I received a new Volume Control Part of Alps for my EMT JPA 66 from EMT. The RK27 used by EMT is an optimised version especially designed by Alps and matched for the use in the JPA 66. In the end I decided going for a better potentiometer, the costly RK50, which EMT does not use.

Why? Alessandro, one of my best joiners on my blog, recommended using the RK50. It has a better constant synchronisation than the RK27. Definitely! We checked the parameters.

of course it is an expensive part. The EMT JPA 66 is expensive too and deserves to get the best parts for its superb functioning as a preamp and as a phono amp.

my experienced Audiotechnik-Service Reparaturen Team built it in.
taking out the old TKD and later on the Alps RK27, connecting by soldering the wires and putting the RK50 into place. we also added a grounding wire between the RK50 and the frame.

FINISH

Everything works fine. Tomorrow I will have my first listening tests. We drilled the hole of the knob to 8mm taking up the shaft. It does not fully fill the depth to the control board.

Today: here are my results: first of all I can HEAR it !!! A subtle more room, more balance, more depth. What a wonderful sound. I am just hearing Taj Mayal Sextet – Swinging Live at the Church in Tulsa. Also: Conversations – Jasper Van’t Hof/ Paul Heller Group. All instruments come very precise, warm and straight.

I never thought that a small part in the volume steering path can have an impact on the sound in such a way. Yes, it switches. And now I know that potentiometers are very important.

Thanks to the EMT engineers. When they developed this great machine they left the space for my modification and the 8 mm hole for the shaft at the front plate. Thank you guys!
