Eliminating Hum

After having exchanged my electricity system (it produces its own current) there was always a kind of hum in my system. Its been not really too manifest but I thought to find a solution to get it away. I have an excellent anti-hum bar which all units are connected with leading to an external main deduction. Of course I have built up a complex music installation divided between two preamplifiers, Audio Research Anniversary 40 and EMT 66 JPA. I am using a switch between these preamps which is a fine special work enabling me to control the output line precisely. As I was never confronted with such a problem before I was looking for the reason, what could be the troublemaker?

I was accompanied by my electronic professional team, searching with me for the “bad intruder”. We thought it might be coming from the subwoofers as they are also carrying an electronic part, a 1000 Watt amp.

No, it was not the subwoofer system. We then went into the WAVACs. By lowering the volume the hum disappeared. We need this lower volume (1/3) of the WAVACs and at the same time increasing (regulate) the volume at the preamplifiers (Audio Research, EMT).

As we usually have magnetic fields coming from the units with power systems (Phono, Preamp, digital sources) in every audio system the WAVACs amplify those radiations. Simple as that 😂

But you need to have electronic engineers to find this 🥲

Now it is silent in the cathedral !!! 😁
