Silvercore SUT switch

I promised to come back with my experiences on the multi Wahnfried SUT switch with three MC and one MM connections. Christof Kraus built this unit in a fully balanced way, also the exits do need an appropriate termination link.
I have some adapters from RCA to XLR, nevertheless it was better when Christof decided to bridge the line to the EMT 66 MM port by an extra cable he sent me before the weekend.

I also remodelled another line from the Continuum Copperhead 3D tonearm carrying the Eminent BC to the Wahnfried by using a Purist Audio Provectus XLR cable. You see it on the picture below.

all my MCs do need a 1:20 transmission to bring the full sound of the systems. The control dial to switch between the step up connections is a heavy and haptically nicely built unit. The silvercore switch needs power to manage the relais, so it comes with an extra power supply.

of course it is a funny experience to switch between the three turntables and 4 tonearms from time to time. Don’t worry I am not jumping around like a DJ. You know that I am keen on step ups, I always was since the 90ies of the last century when most magazine writers were not very fond of this method to boost one’s analogue system. Today it is different!

As I owned a Silvercore SUT quite a time selling it to a good friend in Vienna I was now looking for another one. In this situation the Wahnfried met me (:-). It is a great adventure, wonderful music I am enjoying with the EMT phono/pre and the SUT switch. I am only considering if there is a little step upwards with a Wahnfried carrying real silver core kernels? Maybe I have to talk to Christof…

And a final word: Forget the adaptors (of which class they might be). You need to configurate your phono cables by a Furutech XLR socket. Then you will hear the full capacity of this great MC switch!

  1. I have for years been VERY satisfied with My VdH “The Graul”. Loading is a no brainer. Not cheap but it does the job both with MC and MM carts.
