using an intelligent lift off mechanism the displayed unit called Little Fwend works by the release antenna running quite paralell to the armtube enabling the automatic lift off at the point of contact for release.
From the description I learned: “Lower the stylus at the lead-in groove and liston to music, fall asleep or walk the cat. Little Fwend will safely lift the tonearm when you are not”
as the release antenna is very sensitive you might be well advised looking at it as a cantilever in a cartridge. The result is absolutely fine – it works pretty well!
Eckart,
I love these devices! I have an old Audio Technica AT6006 ‘Safety Raiser’ which has been working for decades now. I also have the cheap plastic ‘Q-Up’. I laughed when I UN-boxed the Q-Up and installed it on my 1229 wondering how long it would last and how gentle it would be with my Grace tonearm. That was about 5 or 6 years ago and it works perfectly. The 1229 get the most use in my home, so the Q-Up gets a workout every day. It’s very inexpensive.
The build quality of the ‘Little Fwend’ appears better than my AT6006. I will look into these.

Norman,
You’re right build quality is excellent. I have also seen the plastique unit which comes for 1/4 of the price. Puuh…
