this is a very special year. At first I have to thank David, Norman and Henry for keeping me on the track with my EMT R-80 combination. They all know what it means having listened to it in my room or owning the machine.

As you know I am always experimenting, in this case trying different record turntable mats. When I was visiting Burmester corporation I was impressed about the technical details of the new turntable 175, as well as about the especially fabricated turntable mat – for Burmester only.

The Burmester mat has two different sides, one is carbon plated, the other one comes with a felt. All real „phono-guys“ know how important the „underground“ will be in extremely high precision systems. On my golden Cu 180 massive platter the carbon side is more on the precise and clear side, very openly presenting the sound. My favorite is the felt side, it comes darker (no, not only with Leonard Cohen ´s last record…but also…).

The Burmester mat is the best Felt/Carbon mat I ever had on my tables!
Eckart,
Is this a soft felt mat like the one that comes with the Linn LP12?
I can’t find this for sale anywhere. Can you send me a link so I can purchase one? I’m thinking I would like the Carbon version.

Norman,
If you buy a Burmester 175 it comes with. It is a soft mat.
I guess you don ´ t get it single. Maybe you ask a shop selling Burmester units.
Or get another, very thin felt/carbon mat . Look for Amari (Canada, Hongkong), a little expensive.
It changes the sound, more to the soft and round direction. It is amazing what kind of effect such as small item in the phono chain has!

Maybe this year I will get back to Germany. I owe you a beer!
